Clay Morris, program officer for worship and spirituality at the Episcopal church center in New York, says that research shows that the practice of sharing the chalice, called the "common cup," generally carries a very low risk of infection. "We are told repeatedly that the common cup is not a health hazard," he said in an interview. Usually, the cup bearer wipes the rim and turns the cup after each person sips.

However, he said, the practice of dipping the wafer, called intinction, may carry a higher risk [of infection] since fingers are also often dipped into the wine. During the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in Canada in 2003, the Diocese of Niagara (Ontario), banned intinction in its churches. The Anglican Church of Canada published a research report on risks of infection and communion practices.   Their conclusions:

-- The present use of the common cup is normative for Anglican churches, and poses no real hazard to health in normal circumstances.

-- Were there any significant risk to the eucharistic practices of the Anglican church for so many centuries it would seem likely that insurance actuarial tables would reflect an increased risk for Anglican priests, who have been performing the ablutions for centuries. In fact the opposite is true.

-- Hands are at least as likely to be a source of infection (often more so) as are lips.

-- Communion in only one kind (the bread) is the best option for those fearful of the cup

-- Priests should periodically instruct the people "If you have the 'flu, a cold, or a cold sore, please don't drink from the cup or dip the wafer into it."

-- It must be stressed however that the present use of the common cup is normative for Anglican churches, follows the practice of the universal church from its beginnings until well into the middle ages, and poses no real hazard to health in normal circumstances.

    At this time, we are trying to determine regular activities that would be fun for our parish.  These activities would give us chance to use our facility more.  We realize that many of you would enjoy having activities at the church but we still need you to let us know that.  Please return your "input" forms to us.  You can e-mail them to us or bring them to the church. 

     Please understand that we are not attempting to force you to come to something that you wouldn't care for but simply asking you to respond if you would enjoy something new and different.  There is a space for you to make suggestions.  Also, if you don't have a form, you can write your suggestions on a sheet of paper and turn it in to Jennifer.

got to meet their Guardian Angels.  Everyone seemed to
really enjoy it, especially the Guardian Angels, themselves.
Many of the “Angels” have said things like, “this child will
be in my heart, forever,” or “please, let’s do it again; it was
so good for me!”

We are starting the program again and will be assigning
Guardian Angels to different children just before Pentecost
so the Guardian Angels will have nearly a year to pray for
their child.  

Adults have until the Sunday before Pentecost, May 24, to
Volunteer.  Even if you were a Guardian Angel, please
volunteer again.

Guardian Angels pray for their Child Daily.
Guardian Angels send Birthday Cards,
Christmas Cards and other notes reminding
the Children that their Guardian Angel is Praying
for them, Thinking about them,  Loving them.
Guardian Angels and their Children
